First of all, I was super pumped when I first heard about this company and the products they make! Rockboard is a company that manufactures kids scooters with a twist.
When first opening your box there is almost no set-up, just a little twist here and pull apart there to get it ready to go. This is because of the super slim portable design. This skateboard can be completely folded down into a compact shape for easy carry and storage. The RockBoard also comes with its own carrying case that easily wraps around it with straps for travel. This is a great feature for us since our garage is already packed as full as possible. I also love taking the kids to the park and beach, so I could easily toss in the van or in the trunk of our car. How awesome is that, especially when you hear how different this scooter is from others?!
Now to be honest, when we first got the rockboard together, I was very concerned with its actual safety. Even for an adult, the concept of the boards stability was in question in my household. In fact, I had to coerce my 13 year old daughter to even give it a try because she was so intimidated by it. You see rockboard scooter is different from any that i have ever seen on the market because it is self propelled. Besides being able to ride this around the normal way (one foot on and the other foot pushing along side), you can position the board in an up position so you can literally "rock" yourself back and forth to move without ever touching the ground. The base works almost as a seesaw pushing you forward as you rock back and forth while holding the handle bars. I feel like its a combination of a scooter and skateboard (like if they had babies haha). This is a solid piece of equipment!
This is almost like learning how to ride a bike but while standing up. As I said, my daughter was really nervous to try this but after a few tries and the positive encouragement from my father and I, she began to get the hang of it. And of course the more comfortable everyone got the more we changed our opinion. We had starting off saying, "this is going to be a really bad idea...I don't think is very safe!" to "wow this is really cool and really not as unsafe as we thought! The kids will all love this." In fact, I even got myself up on it and couldn't wait to show my husband when he returned home from work! I've included a video of my daughter to show you how smoothly it rides! Check it out below.
The Rockboard can be purchased from Target.com for $199.99. Besides the great design and travel case, it also came with a very good quality hat to wear and show your love. My 3 year old son ran around wearing it saying it was his "rock star" hat since this was his "rock star" scooter. I would recommend this product but only for older children as it is recommended for 8 and up. My original thought was to purchase this for my son for next summer - he is way too young and will not be able to use this until he can ride a bike without training wheels. They do carry another version called the Mini which is for 5 and up. This one will be an option for the boys in the coming year. However, it is perfect for a child nearing the teen years or once they have learned to balance without the assistance of training wheels. In my opinion, the rockboard is a little pricey. But when you look at as a couple purchases in one (Bike, Scooter, Skateboard) the cost really isn't too bad. In fact for the quality AND fun its well worth it! Now, is a great time to head over to Target.com to purchase one for a great Christmas gift!
We'd choose Orange!
