Interesting tidbit about myself for everyone in this review. You see I am allergic to Tide detergent. I have been since birth or at least as far as I remember. My father and sister are also allergic. If I wear clothes that have been washed in Tide I break out in hive or worse if I sleep in a bed that has been washed in Tide I have a severely hard time breathing throughout the night and into the next day on top of the hives. So for the majority of my life I have been very picky about the types of detergents I choose to use. Five years ago I bought my first front loader which initially proposed an issue since Tide was the main supplier of HE Detergent. I was forced to explore other brands as well as stock up when I found them to avoid having a reaction. Over the course of the last couple years I have tried to transition my family into a much greener world and one of those ways meant making my own cleaners at home (laundry detergent most specifically). I know first hand how harmful some of the every day chemicals we use in our homes can be. So this was an interesting review for me complete. I was very curious about this so called Smart Klean Laundry Ball and how effective it would be (in more ways than one).
Smart Klean is a laundry ball that is placed in your machine right along side the clothing and linens. "The laundry ball is filled with many ceramic beads, each comprising a combination of different minerals. When these ceramic beads come in contact with water, they form oxygenated water. The water molecules are fragmented into smaller sizes, increasing the water’s dissolution power and enabling better penetration into the fabric’s pores, therefore releasing dirt, grime and odors." These ceramics are designed to leave no residues built up on anything. This is important because the build up is what causes the fibers on clothing to fade and destroy quicker, the washing machines to break down and run less efficiently, and the skin irritations and health issues I experienced (and worse). They can even "build up in your skin, and may cause many serious health problems such as asthma, autism, infertility, allergies, and even cancer." This is not to mention the effect the unnamed chemicals found in most laundry detergents have on our environment. Please take some time to read Smart Klean's "For Your Planet" tab to learn all about how the ball can help the environment. So does it work?
Ok as of today I have washed over ten loads with the Smart Klean ball, each time using no detergents along side or fabric softener of any kind. I've had no reaction to any of the clothing or bedding and although I am no scientist, all appears to be clean. I, of course, have no microscope to look at how clean the molecules are but there is no nasty smells on any of the laundry and even though nothing was majorly stained, it all came out looking no different than when using another detergent. The only thing I will say is my clothes didn't have the fresh fruity or mountain side scent. At first that deterred me from wanting to use the ball because I thought I knew quite a bit about the effects of the chemicals until I started researching more. Now looking at this with an open eye, I am psyched to continue my use of the Smart Klean Ball.
Recommendation: Don't look at the cost because when broken down these balls are very cheap. I believe the Smart Klean Ball is extremely safe and healthy for both the environment and your family. I would recommend doing your research and purchasing one or two (and hopefully safe yourself some money in the long run too).

ReplyDeleteThank you Rachel!! I try really hard to be honest even if it makes me and my family look like goofballs. Its really Important to me to let my readers feel as though they had tried the products themselves!!
ReplyDeleteI added your button to my blog, but I'm wondering if I did it wrong. I cut and pasted the info in the scroll box on your site and then put it into my blog. It came up with a link to your site, not your button. Can you tell me what to do to get the button to show up? Thanks!
