So if you've ever traveled via airplane, you will know what I am talking about when I say there is a magazine that I hate to love on every airline. Sky Mall Magazine is this really great magazine with all the neat gadgets you could ever think of. Only reason I hate the magazine is because half the products are ridiculously expensive. On my most recent travels to the Lucky Leaf Orchards, I spent my time in the air checking out all of the gadgets in Sky Mall that I thought would come in handy for the average person especially those that would be considered green friendly. shUVee™ just so happened to be one of these!
"The shUVee™ Ultraviolet Shoe Deodorizer uses the power of UV light to clean the surface areas inside your shoes. No chemicals or other biological agents are used in this process." So in other words your telling me I don't have to throw away my husbands smelly shoes anymore? I'm in! We all know that using shoe deoderizers or products like febreeze only mask the smells temporarily. "This dark and often damp area serves as a breeding ground for bacteria and fungus that can attack the feet and cause foul odor."
We end up throwing away or donating shoes before they are really even used the length of time they should be. Between Kevin, the boys and my stinky feet we really needed another solution. "Hospitals have been using UV light to eliminate viruses and other harmful organic agents for almost half a century. This technology is now available for home use." So the question is does this really work?
We didn't waste any time checking this out on any of my shoes, we went directly to the nastiest ones we had - Kevin's work boots. The recommended time for work boots is at least eight hours however within five hours we removed our shoes and immediately noticed a difference. Now obviously I don't have a microscope to check whether or not all the bacteria was removed but I can tell you the shoes smelled noticably cleaner.
The shUVee™ additionally comes with shoe bags to use with sandals, open-toed shoes, and children's shoes. It can also be used to clean other items, such as boxing gloves or ice skates. I love that not only does my shUVee work but it is eco-friendly as well since it uses no corrosive chemicals and prevents adding to the already excessive waste around the planet.
Cost: $99 (I found it on amazon for $82)
Available to purchase: Sky Mall or Amazon
Recommendation: Definitely worth the purchase even at a hundred bucks! When you think about what you can spend for a decent pair of shoes and this will help lengthen the life of your shoes. It almost pays for itself when you look at what you would spend to constantly be replacing your shoes because of the nasty smells!
Giveaway: shUVee is going to give one of A Lucky Ladybug's lucky readers an Ultraviolet Shoe Deodorizer of their own!
