This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Miracle-Gro for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
I am obsessed with having as much fun gardening especially with my kids as possible. I am always trying to turn each activity together into a teaching point. We need to start young teaching our children how to be self sufficent and how to take care of this planet so it will be around for generations to come.
I was recently asked to check out Miracle Gro's The Gro Project page. I am actually pretty pumped that this information was shared with me since I am always trying to come up with fun garden projects for my children to work on and of course with Summer break coming up quickly.
Since we recently had a (ahem fish) death in the family, I was thrilled to see the Toyrarium project on the page! This way we could perfectly use our fishbowl for something that both Dane and Declan would still enjoy not to mention take their mind off their loss. Plus, these two boys are obsessed with dinosaurs so this would make for a great new addition to their room!
Being that this is a fairly simple project all you really need is the following:
• Fishbowl or other glass container
• Your favorite succulents and cactus
• Miracle-Gro® Moisture Control® Potting Mix
• Plastic toys or figurines from your kid’s room
• Rocks
• A spoon
Make sure to cover the bottom of the container with a layer of rocks for drainage (in case of over watering). Then, fill it about 1/3 full with Miracle-Gro® Moisture Control® potting mix.
Next, use the spoon as a "mini-shovel" to plant succulents in the potting mix. Chicks and Hens, cacti, or even aloe plants work perfectly!
Finally the most fun part for the boys - Adding the scenery! I let them each pick out a dinosaur to toss in and really any other miniature sized toys to make it look like the real wild! This is really the perfect project for your little ones since these only require a spritz of water!
I absolutely love all the creative ideas Miracle-Gro comes up with for any level of gardener! I also love the flexibility of these projects! If I had an empty OJ bottle or something like a 2 liter I would have actually made my Toyrarium out of that to be even more creative and "green"
