At this age I also know what foods I do and don't like (even though I will try most anything at least once). The problems I have during dinner time are making a food that all five of us will like. Alana and I will eat most anything although I prefer more drastic flavors like cayenne and garlic. Declan eats mostly anything especially vege's and Kevin will eat mostly anything as long as it isn't vege's. Dane won't eat a thing as he is beyond picky!!
I even used to love to make but between trying to lose weight myself and teach the kids to eat healthier, I seem to have given up. Recently, I was asked to review One Bowl Baking written by Yvonne Ruperti. This cookbook focus's on "Simple, from Scratch Recipes for Delicious Desserts".
"Yvonne Ruperti has been baking and cooking for over 15 years, in professional kitchens, test kitchens, and her own bakery. You may recognize her from her three seasons on the Emmy-nominated hit PBS cooking show, America’s Test Kitchen. She is also a writer and currently pens the weekly Chocoholic column for the James Beard award winning food site, Serious Eats."
After reading the synopsis of the book, I felt quite a connection to Yvonne. I have always been the type of person who tries to use as little as possible when cooking. Not only do I hate to waste anything but in all honesty I'm lazy. I hate to clean tons and tons of bowls and utensils after cooking/baking just one thing. The kitchen mess afterwards is a nightmare in my eyes.
The synopsis says, "Over the years, Yvonne realized that when she baked at home, she often condensed steps in a recipe in order to make the process easier, and to avoid washing unnecessary bowls and equipment. Her new book, ONE BOWL BAKING, is all about simplifying baking—not by using cake mixes, but by eliminating extra steps, extra appliances, and extra bowls. No electric mixers, food processors, or other fancy equipment required (perfect for busy moms!). Most of the recipes can even be assembled and in the oven in 15 minutes or less. Some don’t even require a bowl—they’re mixed directly in the pan!"
