Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks DVD Review and #Giveaway
We were recently asked to review multiple DVDs from a series called Jakers! which yet again we had never heard of before. So we were excited yet again to discover a new show possibilty! Jakers! Adventures of Piggly Winks became available from Cinedigm on DVD, on January 14th, 2014.
Being that the kiddos tend to enjoy the animated farm animals and we have quite the love for our Irish heritage, we figured this would be perfect for our family. According to Wikipedia, "The word "jakers" was originally a euphemism for "Jesus" in much of Ireland during the 1950s and 1960s and was an exclamation of surprise, delight, dismay, or alarm."
The synopsis says "In present day, Piggley lives with his three grandchildren and their mother. Whenever the children have a problem, Piggley tells them one of his many, many childhood stories as a moral lesson, with flashbacks to 1950s Ireland with Piggley, his friends and family and the lessons he learned. The stories feature core preschool themes including storytelling, relationships and importance of family."
"This Emmy® Award winning series is part of a global brand with broadcast partners in over 60 countries, including PBS Kids in the US from 2003 to 2008." I have to say I thought this was very deserving of its awards as the colors, lessons, imagination, and exploration was overwhelmingly adorable! Both boys were reluctant to watch it at first since they had never heard of the series but by the end of the first day watching it, they had actually watch each DVD at least twice!
Cost: $12.95 Each
Recommendation: I thought the quality of the films and even the story line was a pretty good one. I don't know if I'd buy the DVDs separately at that price but if there were a box set at a discounted price I would definitely recommend the series!
