Teak Closeouts 48" Teak Bench Review and #Giveaway

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

A while back we first discovered teak wood and all its benefits when we were looking at adding a quick deck option at our old house.  We wanted one which we might be able to remove or utilize in an odd shape which is what got us looking at some teak interlocking squares from a local store.  Then of course the more green friendly of a family we've gotten to be, we discovered the benefits and other uses teak has.

Being that we are moving into a new home in a few weeks which will actually have both a front porch and back deck we have been looking into various porches and swings for use in either places.  So when Teak Closeouts asked me to complete a review of their 48" Teak Bench, we of course said yes.

When this first arrived we knew we would have to set it up ourselves and felt very confident it would be very easy. This solid wood bench shipped in 4 pieces - the arms/legs, back, and seat.  It's suggested that it would take approximately 30 minutes to assemble but it honestly took Kevin half that!

My only complaint was that the wood smelled wet and musty. It was definitely an unpleasant smell and it even felt damp sitting on it for the first 24 hours.  Overall I feel like this is an extremely sturdy bench which my boys have already put to the test jumping and climbing all over it. I think we like it so much we are looking into the other variety of products they have to offer over at teak closeouts

Available to purchase/Cost:  $189 48" Bench
Recommendation:  Um, I've got to say I truly think this is the place to go for teak furniture of any kind!  Their prices are phenomenal compared to those I've seen on most other sites and in stores and the product that arrived on my door steps is not a cheaply made one!

  1. I love cedar. I love the way it smells. I have heard great things about Teak though, as well. I live in a log cabin, and love wood. It looks so pretty.

  10. I currently live in an apartment & don't have the means to have the furniture/flooring I would like. I love dark woods like black walnut. I also like the idea of solid wooden columns & ceiling beams & an actual wood ceiling. Seeing wood in a home makes me feel the nature inside the home and I see how these watches are trying to bring the natural feel to it, it's a very great idea!

  11. I love white pine. I actually have tongue and groove pine all through my house because I love wood. I even have home made round door cupboards, Archways and Dutch Doors made out of pine with old fashioned black wrought iron hinges that look like they came out of a dungeon somewhere. What you have to remember about Pine is that it's a soft wood and dents easily. We chose to stay with the pine for our cupboards even though it is a soft wood because we already have it on all the walls in the kitchen and we wanted the cupboards to match the walls. Most cupboards and doors are made out of Oak or Maple for it's strength, Rock Maple being the strongest wood, and Birds Eye Maple is just beautiful for decorative items. It depends on the item when it comes to what kind of wood I like though. For example a cutting board I would look for Mahogany and Oak. Not only are they beautiful when entwined together they stand up to the job ( I know this because I made one). Now for outside items like benches, swings and raised garden beds I would use Cedar and Teak because they can stand up to the harsh weather like rain and snow. Cedar is cheaper than Teak and isn't as pretty but for things like raised garden beds it is perfect. For a beautiful bench Teak is what you want to use. As far as color I think this beautiful bench would look great in a cherry stain. It's such a nice looking bench. Thanks for sharing it.

  14. I like lighter woods. When we remodelled our kitchen, I chose a light maple. I also like the wood that has a light white wash over it. I think it looks beachy.

  16. We have a lot of light woods. I really like a white pine or a light oak. My daughter made us so many beautiful pieces when she was in woodshop in school. We just cleaned out the back garden and this bench would be perfect.

  20. I would proudly place this bench on my covered patio for everyday use. It would be my extreme pleasure to be able to get rid of the nasty faded pair of plastic chairs I currently have out there!!
