We are usually quite the game playing family. We spend at least once a month having a friendly get together with several other families. In general though, we are always on the lookout for new games to play with together as a family. Every Sunday, we turn off all technology and spend that time doing something offline together!
I was thrilled when Gamewright asked me to review a few of their newest games for the Summer and figured they would all be a perfect edition to our collection. We were sent over Go Nuts!™, Super Tooth™, and Dragonwood™. The kids were psyched when these arrived, especially with the theme of each.
Right away we opened Super Tooth since the boys are big dinosaur fans. I decided to play this with the boys while the rest of our family was at work. Designed for ages 6 and up, I've got to say I had the hardest time figuring it all out myself. The kids who can both read, were confused and we constantly had to refer to the instructions for meanings and guidance as to what to do.
We ended up following the rules but playing to a few of our own modifications. While this might not seem like a positive overview of the game, I have to say it is now one of the kids favorites. We like how the game forces you to make decisions in different situations as well as sacrificing different cards to gain others. It helps the kids with strategy building.
Go Nuts was a blast and even easier of a game for the kids to play. I think they liked the fast play the most as this one consists of rolling the dice fairly quickly while avoiding the cars. This one was even designed for ages 8 and up. Both boys were able to easily understand the rules and even play it on their own.
Dragonwood was designed for ages 8 and up as well but the boys thoroughly seemed to enjoy the action of the "story" behind the game. Alana was a bit bored with the game but again she's 17 so not into the fantasy children's games. We liked how it was a good game which helped kids with addition or math in general. The boys really liked the cards and how it was almost like being in a fairy tale themselves. This is again another game they've been playing this Summer!
Cost/Available to purchase: $11.99 Super Tooth

Recommendation: These are average priced games in my opinion and if none of these sounded of interest to you, they have games for families that have a wide range of ages. I didn't think these followed the traditional style of games which was refreshing. I would recommend checking out all they have to offer over at Gamewright.
